This is outrageously good! At first I thought it was another of those 'escape to the chateau' memoirs but it's anything but. This novel is funny, witty, perceptive and has real bite - and it's a joy for anyone who has a passion for France.

It's not just the highly entertaining story of Nicole's seduction by a rich, charming French businessman that appeals - though their courtship puts a new meaning on the problems of an entente cordiale – it's Nicole herself. Sharp, savvy, and with a backstory that comes as a real shock, she's far removed from traditional romcom heroines. This is darker territory...

Will she and D'Artagnan make it? Will 'the Duchess', his beautiful but temperamental family home, prove to be a challenge that destroys them? Or will Nicole's past traumas ruin any chance she has of a happy future?
